Abstract

The mountain eruption disaster can cause psychological trauma in school-age children, one of which is stress. One method that can reduce stress is recreational therapy: story telling and coloring therapy. The based on of the preliminary study at faoundation Annur Sumberurip Pronojiwo Lumajang found that 6 out of 10 respondents of school-age children experienced severe stress. This study aims to analyze differences in stress levels in school-age children before and after recreational therapy: story telling and coloring therapy in the treatment group and control group. This type of research used Quasy Experiment Pre test-Posttest With Control Group Design. The independent variable was recreational therapy: story telling and coloring therapy, and dependent variable was stress level. The study population was 52 respondents, the sample of 17 treatment groups and 17 control groups used simple random sampling technique. The instrument used PSS questionnaire. Statistical tests using Paired T-test and independent ttest with α 0.05. The results of the study using paired t-test showed that there was a difference in stress levels in the treatment group before and after being given story telling therapy with P value (0.000) ≤ α 0.05 and there was a difference in stress levels in the control group before and after being given coloring therapy with p value (0.000) ≥ α 0.05. Based on the results of the independent T-test statistical test p value (1,000) ≥ 0.05, there was no difference between the treatment group and the control group. It is recommended that this research be used as comparative data for future researchers in carrying out research related to stress levels. And for school-age children to pay more attention to stress levels by doing story telling and coloring therapy as an effort to prevent severe stress levels.
